The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the alleged ongoing “raping festival” in Delta State.
The Delta Police Command spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, made the disclosure on Friday, March 20, following a viral video showcasing the activity on social media.
An X user, @teeniiola had earlier shared a video showing the ongoing festival in the Orozo Community of Delta state.
According to Teni, women in the area have been warned against leaving their homes for the risk of abuse.
Teni said, “Many girls have reportedly been r@p£d and m0l£sted by men in Ozoro during what is being described as a “r@p!ng festival” in the area.
“According to multiple reports and videos circulating online, today is said to be the day of this festival in the Ozoro community, and girls are warned not to go outside. It is alleged that any girl seen outside could be att@ck£d and r@p£d by groups of men.
“Foreigners who are unaware of this situation have reportedly fallen victim as well.
“There is Delta State University in Ozoro, and many female students may not be fully aware of the d@nger. It is disturbing that something like this could be tolerated in society. This is heartbreaking, and urgent action needs to be taken,” Teni wrote.
Quoting Teni’s post, Edafe said, the Commissioner of Police of Delta State, Aina Adesola has ordered an investigation into the matter.
His words, “This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident.”
Condemning the alleged “raping festival” Edafe said the CP has also urged all Delta residents with useful details on the matter to make such information available to the police.
“The command condemns this in totality, no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens
“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Aina Adesola urges Deltans to remain calm while assuring that those responsible for this barbaric act will be arrested and brought to justice.
“The command also calls for witnesses who can provide with useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation,” he added.
