Ogun PDP Condemns Military Clampdown on Protesters

Ogun State Chapter of People’s Democratic Party has condemned military clampdown on protesters, Ogun PDP through a press  release signed by the party State Publicity Secretary, Bankole Akinloye (J.P), the release stated thus:

“It is so worrisome that a peaceful protest which started across major cities in the country a few days ago has been surreptitiously infiltrated by state sponsored thugs in order to blackmail the genuine people’s movement for an end to bad governance”.

“As a political organization with a tradition of tolerance for expression of popular wish by the mass of the people, the PDP has always demonstrated tolerance for protests knowing fully well that protests are constitutionally guaranteed right of the people in a participatory democracy”.

“Therefore for us, the recent deployment of military personnels in Abeokuta and the military clampdown which has reportedly led to loss of lives of peaceful protesters in Lagos and indeed other cities on the orders of the extremely intolerant ruling APC government stands condemned. It is naked wickedness on innocent people. It is despicable and unacceptable”.

“It is regrettable that the same military which has proofed completely impotent in the face of the hydra headed monster called Boko Haram in the northern part of the country has suddenly found its might amidst peaceful protesters in the south. What a begging shame!'”

“With realities such as this, it has become crystal clear to Nigerians and members of international community that the ruling government has become a full blown terror to the same people it swore to defend and protect”.

“As a fact, we wish to bring to the notice of the murderous APC government that #EndSars protests on the streets is just a representation of several other issues agitating the minds of the people which the government has no requisite competence of addressing”.

“As a responsible party, the PDP, once again want to call on the President, General Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation without any further delay. He has to commit, both in words and actions to respect and protect the people’s right to peaceful protests”.

“Apart from that, our great party demands that the ruling government should come down from its high horse and withdraw its senseless military might immediately and commence a full scale investigation into the gruesome murder of protesters in Lagos and other cities”.

“While we are not also in support of any form of bringandage or violent conducts by the protesters, our party also holds that the people’s crave for good governance can never be over emphasized and as such, we make bold to align with every single demand of the protesters. The PDP shall also continue to provide a democratic platform upon which younger generations can ventilate their aspirations and contribute to the quest for a better Nigeria”.
