Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos during the 2023 elections, has criticized the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Rhodes-Vivour accused the President of implementing policies that primarily benefit his allies while plunging ordinary Nigerians into unprecedented hardship.
Rhodes-Vivour pointed to reforms such as the removal of the petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira, claiming they have increased the financial struggles of the average citizen.
“The people are experiencing unprecedented hardship. Today, over 70 per cent of people’s income is spent on transportation and food. They have not even started to think about how they can afford accommodation,” he said.
He further alleged that the reforms favour a select few, saying: “The only people that seem to be benefitting from these reforms are maybe the bankers, the people in government, and the president’s friends. How many Nigerians can say they are benefitting from any reform right now?”
Rhodes-Vivour also criticized what he described as a “culture of wastefulness and extravagance” within the government, arguing it contradicts the administration’s push for economic reforms.
Rhodes-Vivour concluded by reiterating his commitment to building a robust political platform capable of challenging the APC’s dominance and addressing the pressing needs of ordinary Nigerians.
