Atiku to FG: Investigate military honours given to Seyi Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent military-style parade involving Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a gross violation of military tradition.

In a statement released by his media office, Atiku demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, calling the event an aberration for any military branch to organize a formal parade for a non-designated public figure.

Atiku expressed his concern over a disturbing video circulating online, which showed young men, armed and in military procession, bestowing unwarranted military honours upon Seyi Tinubu.

He stressed that the group involved, the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” is not a recognized entity within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Atiku further criticized the use of the term “Cadet,” which is traditionally associated with formally trained military personnel, by civilians who are seemingly exploiting the name to undermine military traditions.

Atiku also raised concerns over the display of firearms by civilians during the parade, particularly amidst the rising threat of illegal arms proliferation in the country.

The former Vice President has now called for an urgent investigation by security agencies to address the legitimacy of the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” the origin of the firearms used in the parade, and the propriety of granting military honours to the President’s son.

He emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces, stating that if any legal violations were committed, the responsible parties should be held accountable.
