The reports, which surfaced online, claimed that Adegboyega had failed to account for over £1.87 million, leading to the closure of his church by UK authorities. However, Adegboyega’s legal representative, Dele Olanwale, has dismissed these claims, stating that his client is not facing deportation.
Olanwale explained that the reports are based on misinformation, emphasizing that UK deportation laws apply only to individuals with criminal convictions. He said, “I couldn’t stop laughing when I read that Tobi Adegboyega faces deportation from the United Kingdom. The newspaper that published this was ignorant. I have represented him both personally and for the ministry. He is not facing deportation. That is basic immigration law, which journalists should understand. Deportation is for criminals, and he is not one.”
Addressing concerns about the pastor’s legal challenges, Olanwale acknowledged that both the courts and the Charity Commission had raised questions regarding the management of Adegboyega’s church. However, he clarified that Adegboyega had not been personally implicated or found guilty of any wrongdoing.
“Tobi has lived in the UK for over 20 years without a single criminal conviction and has made significant contributions to the British community. Despite facing challenges, he remains a winner. Many of his critics, particularly from the African community, thrive on sensationalism and misinformation. Society struggles to accept individuals who stand out and often seeks their downfall. It’s disheartening to see such ignorance and joy in tearing others down,” Olanwale added.
The lawyer’s remarks aim to dispel the rumors and highlight Adegboyega’s contributions and legal standing in the UK.
