Stop blaming the government, take action – Ooni of Ife to Nigerians
The Ooni of Ile-Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on Nigerians to take proactive steps in improving the country instead of solely blaming the government
Speaking in Akure, Ondo State, on Friday during the unveiling of the Ojaja Smart City project, Ogunwusi explained that the initiative was born out of a desire to address the nation’s housing deficit.
“Positive change is possible in Nigeria if we believe in ourselves and our country,” he said. “By taking action, we can gradually reduce the housing shortage.”
Ogunwusi emphasized the importance of focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. “Yes, there is a housing deficit, but we need to work with what we have to achieve results,” he added. He also urged Nigerians to support local businesses, highlighting that 90 percent of the materials used in the Ojaja Smart City project were sourced domestically.
Describing the project as a 100,000-square-meter development aimed at addressing housing needs, the Ooni stressed the importance of producing and buying locally. “This project is a city of its own, showcasing what is possible in Nigeria,” he said. “We don’t have to wait for the government to do everything. If we actively support the government, the country will improve. Instead of constantly blaming the government, we should ask ourselves what we’re doing to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.”
