Bobrisky: Provide CCTV footage of facility, Reps orders CG NCoS
The controller general of the Nigerian Correctional Services, Haliru Nababa has been ordered to provide the CCTV footage of crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky’s stay in their facilities.
The order was given to the CG of NCoS by the leadership of the House of Representatives during the hearing of the investigation on allegations levelled against the NCoS, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Bobrisky by Martins Otse.
Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan had alleged that Okuneye in a viral audio shared online had bragged that he did not do his jail term in the NCoS facility as requested by law.
Okuneye who was convicted in April over some financial misconduct was expected to serve a six-month jail term.
However, in the audio, he allegedly bragged about bribing officials of the EFCC and NCoS to drop the charges against him and allow him to do his time in the comfort of his home respectively.
While the allegations have been denied by both agencies, the House Committee investigating the matter has called for proof that the crossdresser did his time in the correctional facility.
At the hearing, the chairman of the committee, Ginger Onwusibe, issued the order after the presentations of the NCoS representatives stating that Okuneye was reportedly moved from the Medium Correctional Centre to the Maximum Correctional Centre in Ikoyi after spending 10 days at their facility.
According to the NCoS, Okuneye was moved over controversies that trailed donations of chairs made to the facility by the crossdresser.
He said after the controvesy, the CG directed that Bobrisky be moved to the maximum correctional facility.
However, not satisfied with the explanation by the NCoS, the committee inquired if it was their tradition to receive donations from serving inmates.
After the NCoS representative responded in the negative, Onwusibe directed the CG to furnish the committee with CCTV footage of Bobrisky’s transfer from the medium correctional facility to the maximum facility.
He was also urged to ensure that the footage contained activities undertaken by the crossdresser while in the facility as well as when he was released.
