Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has disclosed that he has declined virtually all requests for interviews on the country’s economy from Nigerian media over the past several months.
Moghalu explained that there was no point in a dialogue of the deaf, seemingly suggesting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not ready to pay any attention to his ideas.
The former Deputy Governor made this known in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.
His statement comes on the heels of the worsening economic hardship and hunger in the country, occasioned by the floating of the Naira and removal of the fuel subsidy by Tinubu’s administration.
Recently, Kalu Aja, a financial analyst and educator, explained that Tinubu’s administration got it wrong in the manner palliatives were implemented following the floating of the Naira and removal of the fuel subsidy.
Aja pointed out that it took the Nigerian government a year to understand that food had to be imported and even to write a plan, adding that the CNG buses have remained a mirage.
Meanwhile, explaining why he has stayed away from honoring invitations for interviews on the economy by Nigerian media, Moghalu said he had already spoken a lot about how to fix Nigeria’s economy.
His words: “I’ve declined virtually all requests for interviews on the Nigerian economy from Nigerian media over the past several months. Why? There is no point in a dialogue of the deaf. I’ve already spoken a lot about how to fix Nigeria’s economy. Anyone interested can find what I’ve said.”
He continued: “It’s ironic that people like us who actually do not need Nigeria and its economy for our personal survival are so concerned simply out of passion for our country, but after a while, we must recognize the harsh truth and act accordingly.”
