The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the explosion at the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt, along the GRA axis, on Monday morning.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, a team of bomb experts has been deployed to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blast.
She disclosed that the State Police Commissioner and other top officers are currently inspecting the party office to gather firsthand information.
Iringe-Koko confirmed that the explosion damaged some property.
“We can confirm that there was a blast at the state office of APP. Our anti-bomb squad has been deployed to the scene, and we are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” she stated.
An investigation into the explosion has also been launched.
This incident comes amid rumours of political tensions in the state, with speculation surrounding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alleged plans to defect to the APP with his loyalists.
