Breaking: Protest: Lagos State CP Issues Fresh Warning To Lagosians

The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Adegoke Fayoade, has issued a caution to the residents of the state, urging them to refrain from engaging in violence towards protesters.

During a gathering with traditional rulers and community leaders in the local government areas of Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, and Lagos Island, Fayoade delivered this advisory during a town hall meeting on the weekend.

The Publisher Nigeria reports that there have been indications of a coordinated nationwide protest by a group of Nigerians in response to the prevailing challenges faced by the nation.

This demonstration is scheduled to commence on August 1 and conclude on August 10.

Speaking ahead of the event, Fayoade emphasized that despite the police and other security forces having convened and expressed their stance against any form of protest within Lagos State, it is imperative for the residents to avoid any confrontations with protesters.

He clarified that resorting to violence would essentially be an act of lawlessness.

“If there must be a protest, it must be peaceful. We want to know those who want to protest so that we can make arrangements for their security.

“It is your right to protest legitimately as long as it does not affect the rights of others.

“Any group planning a violent protest should rethink. Such a group will meet police and other security agencies. We don’t want a repeat of the #EndSARS.

“The duty of residents is to give the police timely information about any group planning a violent protest, it is not for them to attack them,” he said.

In his remark earlier, the traditional ruler of Ijora/Apapa, Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, appealed to his subjects, urging them not to participate in the planned protest.

All other traditional rulers and community leaders have also expressed their stance against any protest in Lagos State.

They have expressed their appreciation for the efforts of Yemisi Ojo, the Commander of Area J Police Command, in addressing crime in the area.

Furthermore, they have lauded the commissioner of police for successfully dealing with nine kidnappers in Mushin recently.

In addition, they have called upon the police boss to take action against the activities of land grabbers in their respective areas.
