Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Dr. Abraham Ehizojie, a medical doctor at the Kuje Correctional Centre’s health facility.
The warrant was issued due to the doctor’s failure to produce the medical report of Binance executive, Tygran Gambaryan, or appear in court as previously ordered.
The Nigerian government has accused Gambaryan and his co-executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, of concealing the origin of their alleged unlawful activities’ financial proceeds, totalling $35,400,000.
This offence, the government said is contrary to the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
THE PUBLISHER NIGERIA reports that despite previous warnings, the correctional service failed to comply with the court’s directives, prompting the judge to take action.
Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, expressed concern for his client’s health, citing back pain.
“My client came in here in a wheelchair. He has been complaining of back pain.
“We need to be careful of the life in our hands,” Mordi said.
The judge, Justice Nwite, expressed disappointment in the government institution’s lack of regard for court orders and granted the request.
Gambaryan was ordered to be taken to Nizamiye Hospital for a 24-hour medical checkup under full security.
The case was adjourned until October 11, 2024, for continuation of the trial.
