Nnamdi Kanu had sought N1 billion in damages from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Department of State Service (DSS) for alleged violations of his rights.

According to PUNCH, he claimed that the DSS and its Director-General prevented his lawyers from having unrestricted access to him while he was in detention, preparing for his criminal trial.

However, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his claims of interference with his legal consultations, denial of access to his lawyers, and eavesdropping by DSS officials, which he argued constituted a breach of his right to a fair hearing.
