86-Year-Old Grandma Set Ablaze By Daughter Dies In Ondo

AKURE – An 86-year-old woman set blaze by her daughter has died in Ondo State.

Her 45-year-old daughter simply identified as Abiodun(aka Iya Sunday) poured fuel on her mother and set her ablze at their residence opposite Anglican Cathedral Church, Surulere, Ondo City.

Abiodun alleged that her mother had been the brain behind her problems spiritually.

The victim has eventually died of the burnt she sustained when set Ablaze by her daughter.

Reports had it that that Abiodun, who has been arrested by the Police, said: “I went to my mother’s house around 4 a.m. and sat outside. When it was 5 a.m., I called out my mother from the house. Immediately after she came out, not knowing what was happening, I poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

“What cause this is that I went to one pastor for prayer and he told me that my mother was behind what was happening to me. I did not believe it at first. My mother also took me somewhere to see one woman. After my mother left, the woman also said the same thing.

“I burnt my mother because of what I heard from the pastor and the woman, that I can only be free from bondage when my mother is dead.”

Reacting to the development, Police Publicity Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police (SP) on Saturday confirmed the incident, but said the 86-year-old woman had died in the hospital she was rushed to.
