A report just received from Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers State, states that an unknown number of people were burned to death in a tanker explosion.
“The victims were feared killed following the explosion of a tanker loaded with fuel at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in the states”.
The paper said it gathered that a tanker laden with petroleum products exploded around 9:45pm on Friday, April 26, 2024 and affected other vehicles in a traffic queue.
“The incident happened adjacent to the Indorama Petrochemical Company located along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road, as road leading to some critical national assets,” the report said.
It quoted a source as saying: “We heard two very loud sounds some minutes ago, and people were shouting. A tanker explodes and went aflame.
“The sound came from the Petro-Chemical company area. So when I came out, I saw a thick smoke with fire from a distance.”
