COP28: Sanwo-Olu confirms investors’ interest in Lagos waste conversion initiatives

The governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed that investors are interested in the state’s waste conversion initiatives.

Sanwo-Olu made this announcement in a statement on X with the governor excited to share some positive news from Lagos State’s participation in the ongoing 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“Two waste conversion initiatives that we presented at the global climate summit have garnered significant interest from investors,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“These projects are the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy project, as well as the construction of a new Sewage Treatment Plant.”

He disclosed that he had the opportunity to announce this development and also present Phase Two of the Lagos Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP) to the state’s global partners.

According to him, this progress represents a significant step forward in the journey towards achieving environmental sustainability and resilience in Lagos state.

The governor said this demonstrates his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians and maintaining the state’s status as a beacon of progress.

Sanwo-Olu added that Lagos state’s engagement at COP28 is driven by the goal of fostering collaboration and partnership to address the collective threat of climate change.

“We believe that sustainable solutions to our local environmental challenges can be achieved by working together,” he said.

“I emphasized that the LCARP document serves as our strategic roadmap towards a sustainable future.

“This framework identifies 30 ambitious projects spanning critical sectors such as transportation, renewable energy, and waste management.”

According to Sanwo-Olu, among the 30 projects, 14 are well-suited for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

He added that his administration understands the importance of collaboration and is actively engaging with potential partners to ensure their involvement in bringing the Lagos state government plans to fruition.
