Don’t Expect Stable Grid After Vandalization – TCN To Nigerians

Nigerians have been told by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) not to expect a stable national grid after its installations were vandalised.

The transmission company took to its X account to note that the rate at which its installations are being vandalised in the country was worrisome, therefore, Nigerians should not expect a stable electricity grid.

The TCN, berated the general public for allowing vandals to perpetuate their crime of plundering its facilities, therefore noting that they should as well not expect grid stability and expansion.

TCN said: “The rate of vandalism of TCN’s installations nationwide is becoming alarming. We cannot eat our cake and still have it. We cannot continue to vandalise power infrastructure or look the other way when such activities are ongoing and expect grid stability and expansion.”

It would, however, be recalled that in September, it was reported that vandals destroyed a total of 108 power transmission towers between January 2022 and September 2023.

Also, in May, vandals destroyed nine transmission towers of the TCN in Ogun State.

In the period under review, the incidents were recorded in Benin, Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, and Kano regions.

Among the attacks on the TCN towers were the ones credited to the Boko Haram terrorists two years ago in Borno state, which makes it apparent that the incidents go beyond theft and accidents to sabotage.
