1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday said that he takes a queue from no nation, but will only advance the interest of the Nigerian state in his approach towards ECOWAS handling of the regional standoff, particularly in Niger Republic. He said the crisis in Niger would not deter him from concluding his economic reform programme for the benefit of Nigerians.
2. Many people have been killed in attacks on Chito community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. Witnesses said the fresh killings took place in the same area where at least five persons were killed a few days ago.
3. The junta in Niger has ordered its armed forces to go on highest alert in anticipation of any attack. The junta cited an increased threat of attack, according to an internal document issued by its defence chief on Friday. The document, sighted on Saturday, said the order to be on maximum alert would allow forces to respond adequately in case of any attack.
4. The Police Command in Benue State says it has arrested a suspect allegedly linked to the killing of Justice Margaret Igbeta, a retired President of the Customary Court of Appeal. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, in a statement on Saturday, said one Aondohemba Joseph had been arrested in connection with the murder, adding that he is undergoing investigation.
5. The Director, Press and Public Relations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Eddy Megwa, has said that the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mrs Hannatu Musawa, who is currently doing her one-year youth service is occupying the ministerial position in breach of the NYSC Act. Megwa confirmed on Saturday that the minister had been serving for the past eight months in the FCT.
6. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has finally inaugurated six National Working Committee (NWC) members amid serious protests. The inauguration took place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday midnight because of protests that trailed the emergence of the new members.
7. A former director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko has reportedly passed on. It was gathered that Onyeuko died at a private hospital in Abuja on Saturday morning after complaining of a cold and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
8. Ahead of next Saturday’s Local Government elections in Edo State, the State’s chapters of the People Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress are at loggerheads over allegations of vote-buying. The State Chairman of the Edo PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, in a statement, on Saturday, alleged that the APC has concluded plots to rig and buy votes during the election with N150 million.
9. Police in Katsina State have rescued a 65-year-old kidnapped victim, identified as Hashim Yusuf, along with 95 rustled cows and two motorcycles after engaging bandits in a fierce gunfight at Ruwan Lafiya village, along Sheme Road in Kankara area of the State. ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the State’s PPRO stated this in a statement on Saturday.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed that the arrest and subsequent indefinite detention of its embattled former Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa has not stopped the anti-graft agency from carrying out its statutory duty or probing both high and low-profile persons suspected of corrupt practices. The spokesperson for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren said this on Saturday.
