1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated 45 members of his cabinet, cautioning them that they owe Nigerians accountability, trust and transparency in the discharge of their duties. At the inauguration, which took place at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Monday, Tinubu said being the President at this point in time as the driver of the renewed hope agenda, Nigerians will be queuing behind and expecting to receive the dividends of democracy.
2. Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gave him the green light to accept the ministerial position under the Bola Tinubu administration. Wike said this at his first press briefing as a minister of the Federal Republic in Abuja on Monday.
3. Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 15th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government. This was disclosed in a statement by Mr Olusola Abiola, Director, Information, Office of the Vice President.
4. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to demolish illegal houses built in Abuja. The former Governor of Rivers State stated this after his inauguration as FCT minister on Monday.
5. A Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kafanchan on Monday nullified the restriction of movement placed on Brig Gen Iliya Yammah (retd), the deposed traditional ruler of Arak chiefdom. Judge John Ambi, in his ruling on the matter, struck out Section 11 (3) of the Kaduna State Traditional Institution Law for being inconsistent with the provisions of Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
6. Former federal lawmaker, Daniel Bwala, has warned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, not to create chaos in the city, saying that Abuja is not Port Harcourt. Bwala warned that Wike would be forced to sacrifice his job if he jeopardises President Bola Tinubu’s interests.
7. The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna on Monday dismissed the petition brought by the Labour Party’s House of Representatives candidate for Kachia/Kagarko federal constituency, Augustine Danbaba Umar, seeking to invalidate the election of David Umaru Gurara, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. Justice Chudi Nwankwor, while delivering judgement on the matter, dismissed the petition and awarded N500,000 to Gurara.
8. The former senator representing Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Philip Aduda, has been appointed as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee in Kogi State. PDP National Working Committee, NWC, made the announcement in a statement issued by its National Organising Secretary, Umar M. Bature.
9. The management of the University of Calabar may soon recall lists of students sent to the Nigerian Law School in the last two years for proper scrutiny. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Florence Obi mentioned this when she addressed the press over the several media reports about allegations that Ndifon sexually assaulted female students and did not usually follow due process in passing qualified students except those that yielded to his indecent overtures.
10. Former Special Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad has predicted what would happen to the nation’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under Nyesom Wike as its Minister.
