The Nigeria Labour Congress is in an emergency National Executive Council meeting over the suspension of their strike action.
A reliable source at the ongoing meeting in Abuja disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday morning.
According to him, leaders of the Union are already discussing the possibility of suspending the strike owing to the meeting it had with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday.
“It will be premature to say we have suspended the strike action. We are meeting to consider that option”, he told our correspondent.
According to him, meeting details will be made known in hours.
CN recalls that NLC embarked on a nationwide protest demanding the reversal of fuel subsidy removal and workers’ pay increment.
Consequently, the leadership of organized labour met with Tinubu at the Villa to halt further strike action.
Tinubu, in a statement on Wednesday night by Dele Alake, his spokesperson, pledged to meet workers’ demands.
NLC had announced a nationwide strike action beginning on August 2, 2023.
