1. The Federal Government has approved the upward review of school fees of all Federal Government Colleges, FGCs, also known as federal unity colleges from ₦45,000 to ₦100,000. The development was contained in a directive from the Office of the Director of Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education.

2. Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Friday defended the N8,000 palliative the Federal Government is proposing to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy among the poor. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, he said N8,000 is a substantial amount for many impoverished families who do not usually receive such in a month.

3. Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has ordered an investigation into the death of 10 children in some communities in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of the state. This is just as the Kaduna State Ministry of Health confirmed the outbreak of diphtheria, a deadly disease, in some communities in Kafanchan.

4. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Friday called on the Federal Government to ensure that the fuel subsidy palliatives being considered went beyond cash transfers. The organisation called on the government to consider the introduction of mass transport services across the states to reduce the cost of transportation as the multiplier effect of this would be profound.

5. The Anambra State Police Command on Friday confirmed the death of a couple, their two children and others at their residence in Nkwelle Ezunaka. The man, his wife, two children, mother-in-law and an apprentice reportedly died after inhaling poisonous fumes from a generator on Wednesday.

6. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to uphold the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission that he won 21 states in the February 25 presidential election. Atiku made the request in his final address filed at the Presidential Election Petitions Court on July 20.

7. The 24 members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have re-elected the immediate past speaker, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress and represents Umaisha/Ugya constituency, as the speaker of the 7th Assembly. The members also elected Hon. Abel Bala of the Peoples Democratic Party, who represents Nassarawa Eggon West constituency as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

8. Judge David Tomlinson of Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday ordered that the sum of £101.5 million pounds (about $130 million) be confiscated from former Delta State governor, James Ibori. The judge said Ibori should pay the sum amounting to N101,143,847,363.27 immediately or face an eight-year jail sentence.

9. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is to receive 51 additional platforms to boost counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in the country. The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar disclosed this while addressing NAF personnel during his maiden operational tour of NAF units in Makurdi, Benue State.

10. Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed an alleged madman who beheaded 84-year-old man, Elder Alfred Opadipe, in Ipara community, Remo North Local Government Area of the state. The ‘madman’, identified as David Shodola, aged 32, Friday morning, reportedly beheaded Elder Alfred, throwing the town into confusion.
