BREAKING: Supreme Court Says Naira Policy Crisis Suit Must Be Decided Today

The Supreme Court on Wednesday resumed hearing on the naira redesign case filed by the state governments of Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara and several others against President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

At the hearing today, the highest court insisted that the controversies over the naira redesign and swap policy must be decided today.

This online medium reports that the seven-member panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro declared that new parties wishing to join the suit would no longer be allowed as it decides on a way forward today.

The presiding judge noted that new parties would abide by the outcome of the existing suits or file a new one after the determination of the present suit but that the matter must be determined today.

“You may file a fresh suit after this suit,” Justice Amina Augie said.

The Publisher Nigeria understands that the court was responding to an application by the Attorney General of Abia State seeking to join the suit as a separate suit similar to the one earlier brought by Rivers State Government through its counsel Emmanuel Ukala (SAN).

Therefore, the Rivers State Government consolidated the panel alongside other suits.

After announcing 11 states consolidated as co-plaintiffs, alongside Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states, the panel began to hear the matter of the day. Meanwhile, Edo and Bayelsa States remain co-defendants on the federal government’s side.
