The Publisher Nigeria recalls that Raheem was shot dead on Christmas Day by a trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, who was attached to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah.
The cop and his team were said to have tried to stop Raheem and her family as they drove back home from a Christmas Day church service.
Raheem was shot when the car she was in tried to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead.
Speaking on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the victim’s residence in Ajah, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyo Onigbanjo, assured the family that justice will be done in this matter.
Oniganjo, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the case will be charged to court as soon as the police forward the file to the state government, adding that he will be leading the prosecution.
He said: “We have the permission of Mr. Governor to tell you that justice will be done in this matter. The matter will be charged to court as soon as the police send us the case file. I will be leading the prosecution to show the seriousness the government attaches to this matter.”
Meanwhile, two police officers arrested with ASP Dambri Vandi over the alleged killing of the lawyer have been released.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this while giving an update on the killing on Tuesday.
Hundeyin stated that the police officers were not involved in the crime, stating that they were only detained for interrogation and testimonies.
According to the spokesperson, the police officers were taken into protective custody immediately and were later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
