In a build to the 2023 general elections, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has appointed Ibrahim Zango as his Principal Secretary.
Zango’s appointment was announced in a letter personally signed by the PDP’s presidential flag bearer.
Zango, an indigene of Katsina State is a seasoned public officer who has served Nigeria in foreign missions including the United Kingdom, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, among others.
He was the Chief Protocol Officer at the Presidential Villa between 2001 and 2002.
His academic profile shows he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Sokoto and a Masters in International Relations at the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
He is a Fellow of the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC. Mr. Zango has also attended several specialized training in the operation, administration and management of Foreign Service both at home and abroad.
Zango’s appointment takes immediate effect, the statement added.
This is happening despite a frosty relationship between Atiku and Ex-President Obasanjo.
The former President was recently quoted to have said he regretted his choice of Vice President.
Beyond this, Atiku since his emergence as the Presidential flagbearer of PDP pitched him against the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who has consistently criticised the leadership structure of the party and the need for the party’s chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign.
Atiku is also believed to have travelled to the United States to further his presidential ambition.
