The Publisher Nigeria reports that some aggrieved members of the main opposition party including Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Ortom, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, former Governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose and many others have called for the removal of resignation of Ayu.
These aggrieved individuals have faulted Ayu’s decision to remain as party chairman despite allegedly exhibiting partiality in the PDP presidential primary that produced his fellow northerner, Atiku Abubakar, as presidential candidate.
Ortom, Wike and other aggrieved members had recently pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign until Ayu is removed.
Speaking during the Executive Council meeting in Government House Makurdi at the weekend, Ortom recalled that Ayu promised to resign if a northern candidate emerges presidential candidate of the party.
The Benue State governor, who was instrumental to Ayu’s emergence as party chairman, urged the former Senate President to honour his words.
Ortom said: ”Ayu told the whole world that if a northern candidate emerges he will resign. So where is the honour now to continue in office?
“If you don’t want to resign beg for pardon. But it is not enough to say your tenure is four years and you won’t resign as you said it yourself.”
