Nigerian Newspapers: 10 Things You Need To know This Tuesday Morning

1. Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has accused Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of disappointing him and his supporters who joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Shekarau, who dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the height of the rift with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, spoke when he met with his supporters and associates in Kano on Monday.

2. The Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman and the Police Service Commission are in a fresh disagreement over police recruitment exercise. The Police Service Commission had opened its portal for the recruitment of police constable for the year 2022 and placed an advert on the recruitment in national dailies, but the IGP in a statement yesterday, said the NPF is not recruiting.

3. The Borno State government has confirmed its readiness to reconstruct both public and residential structures in a former Boko Haram stronghold recently recaptured by the military. The State Commissioner, Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (MRRR), Engr. Mustapha Gubio, said this after a visit to Gudumbali town, headquarters of Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno.

4. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday, rejected the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Igbo presidency. Emma Powerful, the spokesman of the separatist group, said they are not part of Obi’s supporters because they are interested in Nigeria’s disintegration.

5. The National Executive Council of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities will meet on Sunday, August 28, 2022, to take a decision on whether to suspend or continue with the industrial action. It was gathered that the meeting would be held at the union’s national headquarters at the University of Abuja.

6. The Adamawa State Police Command, on Monday, paraded 31 suspects arrested for various criminal activities in the State. The Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, said the arrest of the criminal elements followed diligent intelligence-led policing.

7. A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet engaged in the ongoing counter insurgency operations in the North East have bombarded a logistics base and stronghold belonging to members of the Islamic States of West African Province (ISWAP) and killed scores of terrorists. The bombardment, which took place at the Sambisa Forest and the Tumbuns in Borno State, left several of the terrorists injured.

8. No fewer than six supporters of the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, lost their lives in a motor accident last Saturday, in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The victims were inside a red Sharon vehicle conveying supporters of Kwankwaso on a visit to Nasarawa to commission the NNPP Secretariat in Lafia, the State capital.

9. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents of the State to continuously ensure that Lagos remains politically stable for continuous peace, which the State currently enjoys as the most peaceful State in Nigeria. He made the appeal on Sunday during his meeting with leaders of the Lagos State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

10. Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed an army officer whose name was given as Major Churchill Orji at the dangerous Azia area in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
