The need for proactive grassroots intelligence gathering has been emphasised by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command.
This is as the NSCDC also declared its readiness to protect lives, property, critical national assets and infrastructure in the community and combat the nagging insecurity in the country.
Stating this on a visit to the palace of Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo on Thursday, Agboola Sunday, the Osun NSCDC Commandant stressed that to achieve the feat, there was a need for collective responsibility of all stakeholders.
While revealing that it was impossible for personnel of the NSCDC to be present in the nook and cranny of the state, Agboola added that the input of the stakeholders from the grassroots was essential.
In his words, “I enjoin His Royal Highness, the chiefs and indigenes of Iwo town to furnish the Corps with timely information and I assure that such information shall be treated with strict confidence.
“The Osun NSCDC also assured you of the effective service delivery of the Corps’ core mandate and adequate security of life and property of the indigenes.
“As such, we are ready to protect life, property, critical national assets and infrastructure in the community and combat the nagging insecurity in the country.
“However, this feat can only be achieved with the collective responsibility of all stakeholders most importantly at the grassroots.
“This is so because there is the need for proactive intelligence from the grassroots as it is impossible for Officers and Men of the Corps to be present in the nook and cranny of the state.”
Responding, Oba Akanbi commended the activities of the NSCDC in the state and promised continued support from the community.
The Oluwo while appreciating the NSCDC, also stressed that there is a need to secure the country and rid the nation of all elements that are bent on destroying the labour and sacrifice of patriotic citizens.
