FOLLOWING the decision of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC, to conduct local government election in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, vowed to boycott the exercise.
Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle said participating in the process will amount in taking part in illegality.
His words: “We are already challenging the illegality in court so we can’t be part of any illegality. Never.
“We are law abiding party and we have been enlightening even the OSIEC chairman himself. If they are adamant and they still go ahead to conduct the election, of course the law will take its course, we will not hesitate to sanction whoever has decided to go against the law at the appropriate time. To avoid that, is the reason we’re doing everything within our powers to engage them, educate them and to let them see the consequences off their actions so that they will not plunge the state into an avoidable crisis.
“We don’t have to send any text message to anybody because we’re already in power and we’re very comfortable. I think it’s a figment of their imagination. Maybe he’s afraid of his shadows.
“We don’t do such and for the fact that we’ve taken it to court to challenge their illegalities, we can’t threaten anybody.”
He also disclosed that the governor-elect will, at the appropriate time, make public, findings of the transition committee.
He said: “I want you to know that there’s a transition committee in place that is looking into the various activities of this government in the past four years and it’s being run by highly professional people and at the appointed time, the governor-elect will make the findings of the transition committee public.
“This (Oyetola’s) government is illegality personified and from what we’ve seen and heard, there are a lot of illegalities that they have perpetrated and we’re compiling it and when it is made known to the public, appropriate actions will be taken to address that.”
