Just In: Subscribers To Pay Five Per Cent Tax On Calls, Data- FG

The Federal Government has disclosed that Nigerian telecommunications subscribers will pay five per cent tax on call, SMS, and data services.
According to The Guardian, the Minister of Finance, Budget and Planning, Zainab Ahmed, disclosed the tax at the stakeholders’ forum organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission in Abuja on Thursday.
Ahmed, who was represented at the event by Assistant Director, Tax and Policy, Mr Musa Umar, said that some countries in Africa, such as Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, among others, had all keyed into the same revenue generation pattern
She said, “The issue of revenue is not something that we need to shy away from, our revenue can no longer take care of our needs as a country.
“Also Nigeria is no longer making enough money in oil revenue hence the attention is shifting to Non-revenue sectors.”
