Some unidentified gunmen believed to be assassins have killed an officer of an indigenous pipeline surveillance company identified as Indukakpo Ogede, in Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that Ogede’s assailants, three in number, shot him twice in a hotel around Tamic Road in the Okutukutu area of Yenagoa on Sunday.
They were said to have entered the hotel and paid for three rooms where they lurked around to strike their target.
Sources also said after they booked their accommodation, they went to the bar of the hotel to drink beer while waiting for their victim, who had gone out for an assignment, to return.
Upon his arrival at about 7.45pm, the gunmen rushed towards him, shot him twice in his chest and lower abdomen, leaving him in the pool of his blood.
They were said to have sped away in an unidentified vehicle after shooting him.
Ogede, who hails from Igbomotoru in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
His corpse has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in the state capital.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bayelsa Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
He said the command had commenced an investigation into the murder of the deceased.
