Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Gunmen, on Tuesday, opened fire on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State. According to Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, Nigeria’s number one citizen was not in the convoy at the time of the attack, but security operatives and an advance team heading for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, ahead of Sallah, were attacked near Dutsinma in Katsina.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, admitted that he lost his original West Africa School Certificate (WASC) certificate but has the print out of the results. He disclosed this yesterday while addressing journalists in Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area.

3. Unknown gunmen struck on Tuesday at a quarry site in the Shao area of Moro Local Government of Kwara State, killing one mobile police officer and abducting a Chinese citizen. Reports indicate that the gunmen burnt the car allegedly used in the operation and disappeared into thin air.

4. Ex-militant leader, Asari Dokubo, yesterday, expressed pessimism that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi would not emerge president in 2023. In a live video, Dokubo declared that the ‘Obi-dient’ movement, which is currently going on, is a scam.

5. Explosions and gunshots were heard around Kuje Prison in Abuja on Tuesday night. Residents said that sounds of gunshots were first heard around 10pm but it is still unclear if the prison was under attacks.

6. The Dutsinma Area Commander of the Nigeria Police in Katsina State, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aminu Umar Dayi, has been killed by bandits. It was gathered that the late ACP led an attack to one of the bandits’ hideouts in Safana forest where he and one other officer paid the ultimate price after being overpowered by the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel on Tuesday.

7. No fewer than 69 healthcare centres have been closed down by the Katsina State Government as a result of insecurity. The Executive Secretary, Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHA), Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists in Katsina on Tuesday.

8. State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party have rejected calls by loyalists of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for the sack of the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, over the brewing crisis in the party. Asking Ayu to step aside, they said, would affect the party’s chances of winning the 2023 presidential election.

9. The Yobe North Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bashir Machina, has raised the alarm over an alleged plan to forge his signature on a letter stating that he has voluntarily withdrawn from the race to pave way for the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan. According to Machina’s campaign organisation, some persons within the party are bent on manipulating the candidacy of the senatorial district.

10. A housekeeper, Bright Izuchukwu, who defiled his employer’s daughters aged six and seven, was on Monday sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja.
