1. Bandits, on Tuesday evening, returned to the Abuja-Kaduna highway and abducted scores of passengers in an operation that lasted almost an hour. It was gathered that the bandits blocked the highway between Kurnmin Kare and Katari in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State and abducted passengers from commercial and private vehicles.
2. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Board of Trustees (BOT) are currently at loggerheads over the choice of the aspirant to fly the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 general elections. The party had jettisoned zoning and threw the contest open.
3. The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Anderson Ezeibe, has declared that the ongoing strike would linger till next year if the Federal government fails to meet its demands. Ezeibe disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing members of the union at a meeting held at the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State.
4. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has told Facebook to do more in barring the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from using its platform to incite violence. Mohammed stated this during a meeting with a team from Facebook in Abuja on Tuesday. He claimed several people have been killed because of IPOB’s activities.
5. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has busted a drug warehouse owned by a cartel in Delta State and arrested the leader, Bridget Oghenekevwe Emeka, a.k.a Mama. The drug warehouse is said to be located within a palatial mansion owned by the 59-year-old drug baroness.
6. An explosion has killed many and injured several others at Sabon Gari Quarters of Kano State. Many people were trapped under the rubble of the affected house adjacent to a primary school.
7. A newlywed farmer, Biodun Fakoro, has been hacked to death by unidentified gunmen in a farm at Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area in Kogi State. The incident was said to have happened on Monday afternoon at a farm in the suburb of the town.
8. The presidency, on Tuesday, slammed the Northern Elders’ Forum for what it called “delusional arrogance” over its call for some sections of the country to secede. According to a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the presidency insisted that only democratically elected leaders can take decisions that steer the nation, and no one else.
9. Controversy has trailed the death of an undergraduate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, identified simply as Oromidayo, at his hostel in Ibadan, Oyo State. Another undergraduate suspected to be his lover was said to be in a coma as doctors battled to revive her at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
10. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked reports of error in the scoring of candidates in the just concluded 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board warned the public, especially candidates of the last UTME, to be wary of the guile and other unsavoury activities of fraudsters who were making false claims of errors in the scoring system.
