The confirmation was made by the APC Chairman of Ward 6 in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nduka Erikpume.
He told The PUNCH on Sunday that the CBN governor had registered as an APC member.
When asked whether Emefiele had registered in the APC, Erikpume said, “Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member.”
This is coming after reports emerged revealing that Emefiele has hired the services of renowned constitutional and human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) to seek the interpretation of the Federal High Court over his involvement in politics whilst still holding the position as CBN governor.
Recall that the CBN had attracted widespread backslash after some groups and associates had purchased the N100 million APC presidential form for him.
Following the backlash, Emefiele was forced to deny entering the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
In a statement on his Twitter handle on Sunday, the financial expert stated that he is yet to decide on his political ambition, stressing that when he decides to delve into politics he would purchase the form himself with money made from his over ’35 years’ in banking leadership positions.
But according to sources, Emefiele has tasked Ozekhome to seek interpretation of the constitution and public service rules on public servants seeking elective positions while in office.
A top CBN source told The PUNCH that, “Emefiele has just briefed Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) as his lawyer. He has just filed a case in court and is coming up tomorrow (today, Monday).”
Although the details of the suit were still sketchy Sunday night, another source in the APC said Ozekhome was taking up the matter “for certain constitutional interpretations.”
