Why I Won’t Resign As Minister Before APC Primaries – Akpabio

Presidential aspirant and Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed why he would not resign as minister despite contesting for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

According to Akpabio, he would only resign as Minister before the primaries if the guidelines of the party calls for his resignation.

The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State further stated that for now, no law exists on the need to resign before the primary.

Akpabio stated this during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday.

Naija News had earlier reported that Akpabio declared his intention to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure.

The Minister in his statement on Thursday added that the court of competent jurisdiction has shut down Section (84) 12 of the electoral act.

Recall that the Federal High Court in Abia State in March through a ruling passed by Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that section 84 (12) be deleted from the Electoral Act.

Akpabio when asked if he would resign said, “I will only resign before the primaries if the guidelines of the party say I have to resign before the primaries but for now the law does not exist, it has been shut down by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
