The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Thursday, faulted the decision of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, to run for the 2023 Presidency.
National President of AYCF, Yerima Shettima, said Nigeria would continue on the path of failure if Osinbajo succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Speaking exclusively with DAILY POST, Shettima faulted Osinbajo’s declaration to continue the legacies of Buhari’s administration if elected in 2023.
The AYCF National President wondered if it’s the policy of alleged corruption, nepotism, or retrogression of the Buhari administration that Osinbajo intends to continue.
Asked if Osinbajo was the right candidate for Nigeria, Shettima said: “What that means is that we should continue on the part of failure because he has made his position very clear that he would make sure he builds on the legacy of this administration, but I don’t know what legacy this administration is leaving behind.
“Is it the corruption? Nepotism? Is it the retrogression or poverty in the land we are faced with? Is it the inconsistency he is going to build on now? I don’t think Nigerians are prepared for that.
“Constitutionally, he has the right to declare his intentions; there is nothing right or wrong about him declaring, but Nigerians will determine whether to support him.”
Shettima also commented on the widespread claims of Osinbajo betraying a fellow All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu.
He wondered why Osinbajo declared for the Presidency after he vowed never to contest against his acclaimed ‘godfather’ Tinubu.
“He said he would not contest against his godfather, so why did he suddenly go to that studio and declare?” Shettima queried.
