The Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Sharafadeen Alli while speaking on the new entrant into the Ibadan Traditional Council of Other Chiefs said regardless of the advent of civilization, the importance of traditional institution in the society could not be overemphasized stressing that it remains one of the key rallying points for the people especially in the part of the world.

Speaking with Sunrisebulletin.com shortly after being inducted into the Ibadan Council of Chiefs, the Sarkin Hausa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Zungero said traditional rulers as custodians of culture and tradition also have key role to play in the development of the society and sustenance of the general peaceful coexistence among various ethnicities living together.

Alhaji Zungero who hails from Katsina state said his late father was born and lived all his life in Ibadan while his mother was born in Oke-Are part of the capital city of Oyo state stressing that the peace and tranquility in Ibadanland has endeared so many others from different parts of the country to migrate to settle down in Ibadan.

The new leader of the Hausa community who became the Seriki Hausa of Ibadanland about three months following the demise of the immediate past Seriki Hausa explained that the people of Ibadan are very peaceful, friendly, and accommodating with other tribes which was evident in the age-long peaceful coexistence with other tribes resident in the state especially in Ibadan.

He said, “my grandfather was here for over hundred years. My grandfather was here as the Seriki Hausa of Ibadanland before my father, then my late elder brother Ahmadu before me now.

“The relationship between us and the Yoruba people is so sweet even Ibadan is a very good place. They love people, they welcome people to their land with open arms, they respect people, and they also give people land to stay with them and we love them too.

“Even we Hausa don’t want to leave Ibadan because of the peaceful coexistence between us. When we visit our hometown our own people use to call us ‘omo ibadan’ which translates (people of Ibadan) and when we are coming back to Ibadan they will say omo Ibadan are you going back? And we will reply them yes, we are going back to Ibadan because we belong to Ibadan.”

Speaking about the government of Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo state, the Seriki Hausa described it as “so sweet, more than what I can say,” stressing that Makinde is a great Governor the state can never forget in a very long time to come assuring that he will use his office to continue to promote peace and love between the Hausa community in Ibadanland and their host.

The Supervisory Councillor on Legislative Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Faira in his remarks said ; “The government of Engr. Seyi Makinde has immense regard for our traditional rulers and also the non indegenes going by the numbers of unprecedented political appointment given so far.

“It shows Engr. Seyi Makinde is not a biased politician, not a biased leader and certainly not a biased Governor but a man that can be described as not only an advocate but an ambassador of peace. On behalf of the non indegenes in the state as of today especially the Hausa community, i appreciate his Excellency for his kind gestures and love towards us.”

The event was witnessed by the Executive Chairman of Ibadan of the Local Government, other High Chiefs who are members of the Ibadan North Traditional Council of Chiefs and Other Chiefs as well as Baales of different communities across Ibadan North Local Government.
