House Of Reps Is Committed To Promoting Manufacturing – Gbajabiamila

The Nigerian House of Reps has disclosed that it is committed to legislative policies to boost Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. This was disclosed by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, at a dinner organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) to mark the association’s 50th anniversary on Wednesday in Abuja.

The speaker, represented by Rep. Aliyu Magaji said that manufacturing is important for the development and economic growth of any nation and is a foundation that developing countries could transform into modern economies.

What the House of Reps Speaker is saying
He stated that the manufacturing association has played a crucial part in developing Nigeria’s manufacturing capacity.

Gbajabiamila said, “From our assumption of office, the Ninth House of Representatives has placed special emphasis on the economy and how the legislature can help contribute to its development.

“Recognising that we were in office at a time of rapid change in our country and the world, we set out for ourselves some clear targets which we codified in our legislative agenda.

“In that document, we set out to, among other things, promote individual aspiration, provide public services and infrastructure and finally, support business, innovation and private enterprise.”

He mentioned that through the legislative agenda towards manufacturing, the House of Reps has also seen to the repeal and re-enactment of the Companies & Allied Matters Act, 2020, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2019 and the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act, 1993 (Amendment) Act, 2019.

“Also the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), now an Act of the Parliament, which is designed to transform the oil and gas operations and investment landscape in the country, will also have a positive effect on the Nigerian economy,” Gbajabiamila said.

In his remark, the President of MAN, Mr Mansur Ahmed, said MAN has made tremendous successes since its inception and has no doubt, surmounted many challenges with determination and commitment to rank among leading manufacturing markets in the next 10 years.

“No doubt, we need to know that it is manufacturing that can help us create more jobs, enhance the capacity of Nigerians and bring a lot of benefits vital to the economy of the nation,” Ahmed added.

Nairametrics reported earlier this week that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) had urged the Federal Government to monitor the implementation of Executive Order 005, to boost Nigeria’s manufacturing competitiveness and self-reliance.
