Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has insisted that everyone aiming to gain entrance into the NYSC camps must undergo a compulsory COVID- 19 test, saying only those that tested negative would be admitted for the orientation course.
The scheme explained that the number of participants allowed into camp have been reduced nationwide in order to ensure enough room for physical and social distancing.
NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi who disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja, added that prospective Corps members will resume orientation courses in batches over a period of five days in order to avoid the crowd during registration.
She explained that since the beginning of the pandemic, five orientation courses have been successfully executed without COVID-19 infractions.
According to her “The 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream II is the 6” Orientation Exercise since re-opening. Five Orientation Courses have been successfully executed without COVID-19 infractions.
“Measures put in place by NYSC Management to ensure safe Camp re-opening include an excellent partnership with NCDC (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control) over the last year include; Presence of NCDC surveillance team and State Health Officials on NYSC Camps nationwide.
Adenike added that fumigation and decontamination of all NYSC camps are carried out before the
commencement of any Orientation Exercise.
The NYSC spokesperson said the TY Danjuma Foundation has donated a total number of 60,000 COVID-19 test kits to the scheme to aid in COVID-19 testing.
“The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) donated 72,000 RDT kits.
“Vaccinated or not, everyone undergoes the compulsory COVID-19 test before entering NYSC Orientation Camp.
