Glo @ 18: Customers to get FREE calls, data

As national telecommunication company, Globacom, marks its 18th anniversary on the 29th of August, it is delighting prepaid subscribers on the network with FREE airtime and data for their patronage and loyalty over the years.

Globacom currently has over 50 million subscribers on its network. The company, in an anniversary statement in Lagos on Saturday, said that a gift of N200 airtime comprising 6 minutes of talk time for calls and 200MB data for browsing will be given to its prepaid subscribers.

Customers on the network who have recharged from N200 and above in the last 30days will be given the celebratory offer which they will receive through SMS notification. They will also receive SMS notification of its expiry after a 24 hour validity period.

According to the company, “Since we rolled out services in 2003, we have pursued a bold vision to build Africa’s biggest and best telecommunications network. It has been our delight to fulfill this vision and consistently deliver innovative and quality telecoms solutions to enable our subscribers to achieve their aspirations”.

“As we mark the 18th year of operation, we wish to appreciate the support of all our customers and stakeholders, including the government and regulators, for their continued faith in our business to significantly contribute to the sustainable development of the country”, Globacom added.

It made history at inception in 2003, by crashing the cost of SIMs from N20, 000 and N50 a minute respectively to as low as N200 and 5 kobo per second. It also ensured massive telephone penetration in Nigeria by making telephony accessible to the common man, thus earning the International Telecommunication Union, an agency of the United Nations’ commendation in 2004 for playing a critical role in the revolution in the Nigerian telecommunication industry.

It also pioneered 3 G Plus technologies, in addition to 2.5G technology launched in 2003, while other operators were running on the 2G platform. Recently it also became the first operator to launch a nationwide 4G-LTE coverage in Nigeria and has successfully done a test-run of its pilot 5G technology in readiness for the ‘Big Data and IoT deployment.

“The free airtime and data to our esteemed subscribers is a token of appreciation of their patronage and support in building a world-class network”, Globacom concluded.
