1. The police on Saturday said five people were killed in a clash between soldiers and some suspected gunmen in Isuofia community in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the military checkpoint located at the Afor-Uzo Junction in Isuofia on Saturday.

2. The Obi-Datti Media Organisation has condemned the burning of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) office in Ogun State, saying that the incident is a national sabotage capable of disrupting the 2023 general elections. In a statement signed by its Head, Diran Onifade, the Obi-Datti Media Organisation accused opponents who have foreseen defeat in the elections of planning to disrupt it.

3. After close to four weeks of catering for flood victims displaced by the recent flood in the State, the Bayelsa State government has begun the shutting down of Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) in the State. The decision to shut down the IDP camps has, however, elicited mixed feelings as some of the inmates wanted to stay behind.

4. The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu, weekend begged Nigerians not to give up on the ruling party, ahead of next year’s general elections. Tinubu made the plea to Nigerians at the funeral service of his late mother of the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, Lady Evangelist, Grace Akeredolu held at the Cathedral Church of St Andrew’s, Imola, Owo.

5. Following the havoc poignantly unleashed on many homes and communities by flooding, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu yesterday urged the federal government to take steps to dredge rivers and waterways as a long-term solution to the menace.

6. The naira yesterday recorded a major gain against the dollar, closing at N680/$ at the parallel market in a new wave of sustained recovery after weeks of depreciation. The recovery of the local currency is linked to ease in dollar demand and release of huge dollars by forex speculators who wanted to take advantage of previous rate spikes in the market.

7. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has denied authoring a statement on allegations of drug trafficking made against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi told our correspondent that the statement was fake.

8. The Shura Council of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) has banned naira as a means of transaction for the illegal tax it collects from peasant farmers and fishermen. It was gathered that the move by CBN to redesign the Naira notes threw the ISWAP population in the Tumbus of Lake Chad into confusion.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has alleged that Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential Candidate, is “contributing to how Nigeria is going down”. Oshiomhole said this during the flag-off of APC presidential campaign and senatorial election at Auchi, Edo State.

10. Indications have emerged that the 22 governors on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress will play major roles in raising campaign funds for the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
